Gus Small, a senior partner in the firm, devotes his practice to commercial bankruptcy matters and commercial litigation. He has represented Debtors and Debtors in Possession, served as Trustee and counsel for the Trustee in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases and has been legal counsel to a number of creditors’ committees. Mr. Small has represented clients in cases of lender liability, secured and unsecured creditors’ rights, contract disputes, insurance defense cases involving real estate issues, construction lien law and receivership cases as well as arbitration tribunals.

            Mr. Small was one of the founders of the Atlanta Bar Association’s section on Bankruptcy and has served as president and chairman of the Board of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute and as chairman of the sections on Bankruptcy of the Atlanta Bar association and the State Bar of Georgia. He has also served as an adjunct professor of bankruptcy law at Mercer University School of Law. He has been named in the publication, “The Best Lawyers in America” for over fifteen years and has been recognized for many years as a Georgia Super Lawyer by legal publisher Law & Politics.  Mr. Small served in the United States Army during 1969-1971.  During 1970-1971, he was assigned as a First Lieutenant to the Headquarters Unit of the 937th Combat Engineer Group in Phu Tai, South Viet Nam.

            Mr. Small graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Emory University. He earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University where he was executive editor of the Mercer Law Review.
